SPLA-IO recaptures Akobo town from SSPDF<\/h3>

The opposition SPLA-IO announced they have recaptured the strategic border town of Akobo in eastern Jonglei State from government troops following fighting. The opposition-appointed commissioner of Akobo said SPLA-IO fighters retook the town near the Ethiopian border after overrunning positions previously held by the SSPDF.<\/p>

UN concerned as opposition retakes a strategic town in South Sudan<\/h3>

The UN expressed concern over violence in the strategic town of Akobo in Jonglei State, which was retaken by opposition forces after they ousted government troops. The SPLA-IO spokesman said opposition fighters captured the town and took military vehicles and weapons.<\/p>

NSS probes senior SSRA officials over suspicious $2 million withdrawal<\/h3>

South Sudan’s National Security Service has opened an investigation into the withdrawal of more than $2 million from accounts linked to the South Sudan Revenue Authority. Leaked documents show the Internal Security Bureau flagged “suspicious cash withdrawals” totaling $2,016,000 made over a six-week period.<\/p>

South Sudan forces blocking aid amid mass evacuations, rights group reports<\/h3>

April 14, 2026 – JURIST News<\/strong><\/p>

Human Rights Watch reported that South Sudan’s military and opposition forces have blocked humanitarian access and unjustifiably ordered civilians to evacuate populated areas. Hundreds of thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their homes, schools, and businesses as a result.<\/p>
