Nearly 2,000 ex-SPLA-IO officers await integration into SSPDF one year on<\/h3>

March 19, 2026 – Sudans Post<\/strong><\/p>

Nearly 2,000 former SPLA-IO officers who defected to the SSPDF in Western Equatoria State on April 17, 2025, are still awaiting integration into the national army more than a year later. The 1,924 officers were led by Major General Edward Razig Joseph, Acting SPLA-IO Sector 6 Commander.<\/p>

Eight RSIPF Officers on UN Mission in South Sudan<\/h3>

March 19, 2026 – Royal Solomon Islands Police Force<\/strong><\/p>

Eight officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force departed for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, where they will serve under UN Police for one year. The officers were officially farewelled by the Acting Commissioner of Police and the RAPPP Commander.<\/p>

SSPDF takes control of Akobo town<\/h3>

March 15, 2026 – Radio Tamazuj<\/strong><\/p>

South Sudan’s army deployed troops in Akobo town in Jonglei state, days after announcing it had recaptured the area from opposition forces. Akobo County, near the Ethiopian border, had been the last remaining SPLA-IO stronghold in the Lou Nuer areas.<\/p>

Govt Warns South Sudan Churches: Respect Judicial Independence in Machar Trial<\/h3>

The South Sudanese government urged the South Sudan Council of Churches to respect judicial independence amid the ongoing trial of suspended First Vice President Riek Machar. The government warned that calls for his release before proceedings conclude would undermine justice and the rule of law.<\/p>

March 18, 2026 – UNMISS<\/strong><\/p>

Lieutenant-General Mohan Subramanian, Force Commander at UNMISS since July 2022, completed his nearly four-year tenure leading around 14,000 peacekeepers. In his departing interview, he emphasized that protecting ordinary civilians caught in conflict must remain the mission’s guiding light.<\/p>
