Attacks on Girls in South Sudan

Children should be able to go to school and learn without fear. Authorities should ensure these basic rights. For girls in South Sudan, this is harrowingly not the case, as a few recent examples make clear. On June 25, armed men in Pochalla North, Jonglei state reportedly abducted four female students as they travelled to sit for secondary school exams. The local community have organized search efforts, but the four remain missing.

Gen Dagalo takes key step towards parallel government in RSF-held areas of Sudan

Gen Mohamed Dagalo, commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has been selected to head an alliance of political parties and rebel groups, seen as a step towards setting up a parallel government in areas held by the paramilitary.

Over 700 civilians killed in South Sudan between January and March: UN report

It is government’s primary responsibility to protect civilians and prevent conflicts, says UN official. A new United Nations Mission in South Sudan report reveals a grim toll of violence in the country between January and March 2025, with 739 civilians killed, 679 injured, 149 abducted, and 40 victims of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV). The report documents 1,607 victims in the first quarter of this year, the highest number in any three months since 2020.

13 killed in inter-clan fighting in Ulang

At least 13 people, including a woman, were killed and seven others injured in clashes between rival clans on Sunday in Ulang County, Upper Nile State, local officials said. Ulang, located in eastern Upper Nile, has previously experienced violence between local youth and the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF). However, the area had been relatively calm following an army deployment.

Aweil North farmers killed in clashes with Sudanese Nomads

Majok Deng Akuacdit, the Secretary of the Dinka Malual Peace Committee based in Gok-Machar, told this publication on Wednesday via phone that the two incidents occurred last week amid escalating tensions between local farmers and Arab nomads, who are in the process of returning to their places of origin in Sudan. Aweil – At least two people have died from injuries sustained in violent clashes between local farmers and Rezigat nomads at the Kiir-Adem border point in Aweil North County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, South Sudan.
