Au Soudan du Sud, les tentatives de médiation pour obtenir la libération du vice-président Riek Machar, détenu depuis le 26 mars ont pour l’instant échoué. Mais, si la guerre civile menace, le gouvernement de Salva Kiir tente d’amadouer une partie du camp du vice-président, en multipliant par exemple les appels aux soldats de Riek Machar à faire défection pour rejoindre l’armée gouvernementale.

The government’s use of these weapons in populated areas may amount to war crimes.

South Sudan’s main opposition party appoints new leadership amid Machar detention

Stephen Par Kuol named interim chairman during meeting in Juba. The South Sudan main opposition Party, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition, on Wednesday appointed an interim chair as the party’s First Vice President Riek Machar remains under house arrest. Machar was placed under house arrest by President Salva Kiir Mayardit last month.

SPLA-IO forces accused of detaining GPOC barge

Authorities in Guit County of Unity State have accused the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in-Opposition (SPLA-IO) of detaining a barge belonging to the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC) for the past two weeks. Greater Pioneer Operating Company is an oil consortium owned by China’s National Petroleum Corporation, India’s ONGC Videsh and Nilepet.

Enforcing our nation’s immigration laws is critically important to the national security and public safety of the United States. Every country must accept the return of its citizens in a timely manner when another country, including the United States, seeks to remove them. As South Sudan’s transitional government has failed to fully respect this principle, effective immediately, the United States Department of State is taking actions to revoke all visas held by South Sudanese passport holders and prevent further issuance to prevent entry into the United States by South Sudanese passport holders. We will be prepared to review these actions when South Sudan is in full cooperation.
